**Royal Navy Launches Latest Astute Class Submarine – Agamemnon** ⚓
The Royal Navy’s newest Astute Class submarine, *Agamemnon*, has been launched at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Named after the legendary Greek king, *Agamemnon* is the sixth of seven Astute Class submarines, all designed and built at the Barrow shipyard.
The 97-metre nuclear-powered vessel, weighing 7,400 tonnes, entered the water for the first time yesterday. Equipped with advanced nuclear technology, these submarines never require refuelling and can produce their own oxygen and fresh water from the ocean, allowing them to circumnavigate the globe without surfacing.
BAE Systems’ submarines division employs around 13,500 people, mostly in the North West, and expects to grow to 17,000 in the coming years.
