Advanced Fabricator Fitter – Defence Manufacturing

Location: Stockport

Salary: £19.97 per hour

The organisation is recognised globally for delivering high‑integrity military systems and long‑term programmes for defence customers. As part of continued growth, we are seeking skilled and motivated Fabricator Fitters to join a world‑class production environment.

 

About the Role

You will operate within a state‑of‑the‑art facility, manufacturing complex assemblies for defence applications. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will use jigs, fixtures, engineering drawings and work instructions to produce high‑precision components that meet stringent quality and safety standards. The role includes training to achieve European welder approval qualifications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety Compliance — Identify hazards and follow all EHS policies before commencing work.
  • Aluminium & Steel Fabrication — Fit and fabricate aluminium and armour‑grade materials using jigs and fixtures.
  • Welding Operations — Perform tack welding using MIG/MAG processes in line with defence‑grade procedures.
  • Quality Inspection — Conduct visual and non‑destructive inspections to ensure components meet drawing specifications.
  • Technical Interpretation — Use engineering drawings, work instructions and WPS/NDT methods to complete tasks accurately.
  • Tool & Instrument Use — Operate hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Welder Qualification — Complete European welder approval tests on a regular basis.
  • MRP/SAP Booking — Record hours and activities using an MRP system (SAP).
  • Equipment Reporting — Report equipment faults through approved maintenance procedures.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Recognised Time‑Served Apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Practical fabrication experience within heavy environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously on fabricated assemblies using jigs, fixtures and engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of quality, safety and environmental systems.
  • Experience working to defence‑grade standards is highly desirable.
